This feature is always 'under construction'. If there are questions you would like to see added to what we have already published, please let us know in an e-mail to...

Thank you for helping us help you.

Now it's your turn to answer a question. The e-mails we receive from our web site visitors are very important. We take all comments very seriously and at times, resulting from these e-mails, we add new features or change old features. For instance, we added the amenities columns because many of our correspondents asked for them. Is there something you would like to see added- or changed? Please, take a few moments and send us your comments.

Thank you,

How do I find an RV Park near an desired Interstate highway exit in a desired city?
There are two ways to find RV Parks near one of the exits of a selected Interstate highway:
1. Graphically by means of our interactive maps. Select the state from the Interstate highway State Map. You will be presented with a strip map of the Interstate highway in that state. Primary cities which have RV parks are designated by gold diamonds (◊). Other cities, to help orientation, are designated by gold sunbursts (). Click on a gold diamond to view a list of RV Parks near that Interstate highway in and near that city. 2. From lists sorted geographically. Select a state from the lists of states in the Interstate highway State Index. You will be presented with list of cities along that Interstate in that state. Cities which have RV parks are displayed in bold type; the other cities are displayed in a very light gray type. Click on a city of interest to view a list of RV Parks near that Interstate highway's exits in and near that city.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

What is a 'clickable' map and how do I use it?
Our 'clickable' maps have links to other pages with relevant information. If you place your mouse arrow over the link and left-click your mouse you will go to that page. Above each map are instructions telling you what to 'click' on to view the lists of RV Parks or to view lists of businesses that sell parts for, or repair RVs.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Your map of (any city) is inaccurate.
You're absolutely correct. All of our maps of the local area are designed to help you see the relationship of the local Interstate exit(s) to the primary city as well as any other communities within a reasonable distance. We only include the highways which help orient you to relative positions of these communities and the Interstate exit(s) and, usually, only include the communities in which are relevant to the object of the map. Please note that the larger and more detailed the maps are, the longer it takes them to load. Some because of the number of communities represented, can take over a minute to load if you are using a dial-up modem. If you are using a dial-up modem you may wish to avoid accessing the maps. (All maps load almost instantly if you are a cable or DSL user.)

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why aren't all RV Parks listed?
We only list RV Parks that we are aware of. If we have received verifiable complaints about safety or misrepresentation we will not list them. The fact that a certain RV Park is not listed usually means we do not know about that park. We depend heavily on feedback from folks like you to keep us informed about these RV Parks and changes thereto. We do not receive commissions or other fees from either these park owners or their representatives.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why are some RV Parks listed in barely legible gray type?
These are properties concerning which there is one or more unresolved situations. Until the situations are completely resolved, we do not list them.

We make every effort possible to maximize the probability that the RV Park you select will prove equal to your expectations.

If you encounter a problem, send an e-mail to us at:

HELP@Wheatley.Lib.NC.US

Though we have no authority over these properties, we are frequently able to exert some influence in resolving 'situations'.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why don't you list the '800' numbers?
If the 'local' phone number is available, we do not list the toll-free number. Certainly, unless you are already familiar with the park you will want to contact them for specific information. Most of these businesses maintain their (expensive) toll-free numbers for making reservations. Frequently, the person answering the toll-free number is unable to give information about the park other than that there is or is not space available as you've requested. We have also found that a few folks get a little upset :-( when you call their toll-free number and just want to sk questions. Not exactly a good way to conduct a business but, then, why take the risk of aggravating the manager of a campground you may wish to spend a night or two in. Anyway, most RVers have cell phones and most wireless carriers do not charge for 'long distance calls' but those minutes of air time count the same if it is a toll-free call or a 'regular' call.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

The prices you show are higher than what (campground) charges.
We try to display the highest price the campground charges. Most campgrounds have many levels of charges, e.g., back-in, pull-through, water front, executive, and so on. Also most campgrounds accept one or  more 'club' membership discount cards which reduces the rates but not on the same scale. You can probably always get a lower rate than what we show - but - we try to give you an idea of how deluxe a site they are prepared to offer. In any case, though, we strongly urge membership in one of the many RV clubs. Even with membership, though, there are dates and situations when discounts just are not available.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why do you list parks but have no details in the listings?
Ah, all the 'question mark' and 'xxx' entries aroused you curiosity! Well there is method to our madness. It is very challenging to find many of these parks and some of the most difficult to find are, at times, the nicest. If we can get an approximate location and a telephone number, we will list the park. Those pieces of data we couldn't get are flagged with a 'question mark' or 'xxx'. These notations have special meaning to our computer program and allow us to replace them with valid data. Periodically, we will go through the web site reviewing every single page. We can do an computerized search for a question mark or an "xxx' field. When we find one we will telephone the park to attempt to replace the question mark or 'xxx' with valid information. Most parks are seasonal and many don't answer the phone out of season. Other cases the phone just doesn't get answered or is is busy 'forever'. So we have to try again some other time.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

I tried to contact (RV park) by e-mail; finally telephoned them and they said the e-mail address is incorrect.
We don't know of anyone who has yet found any solutions to the many e-mail problems. Of course there is the serious 'spam' problem which just gets worse and worse. Many RV parks don't list e-mail addresses because of the 'spam' problem. Yet e-mail is about as close to being a critical manner of communication especially for RVers. Ever try filling out one of those 'secure' forms on a PDA or cell phone? You can e-mail from almost everything now and it doesn't require a big screen or a fancy keyboard, just a very adept thumb. And, if your cell phone is serviced by the right carrier, you can e-mail from almost anywhere, anytime. Another serious problem with e-mail is the inability to forward mail from an old address to a new address. Many of these RV parks use 'free' (or almost free) e-mail services and hosts for their web sites. You rarely get more than you pay for and that is especially true on the Internet.
Then there is the situation where your e-mail is accidentally deleted thinking it was 'spam'. This is why we encode the subject lines with a brief identification phrase which is displayed by most e-mail programs. E-mail is challenging but we don't know of a good substitute.
And, finally, maybe we just goofed and the address contained a typo :-(

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Your text is so tiny it is hard to read. (or, your text is so big it doesn't fit on my screen)
We do use a broad range of sizes and color and we realize that there is no way we can please everyone. But there is a solution for most Internet users. The better Internet browsers have the ability to change the presented type size. For example, Microsoft Explorer (at lease the more recent versions) allow you to select from a range of 6 type sizes. We have designed this web site for the middle of the road to enable you to go larger or smaller. This way folks with those tiny screens can still see the data and folks with the large monitors set at very high resolution (which means the type will be much tinier than normal) can set the browser to display whatever size is most comfortable.

Who and what is Wheatley Memorial Institute?
Wheatley Memorial Institute of Information Sciences was created in 1974 as a not-for-profit corporation under section 501 (C) (3) of the 1954 Internal Revenue Code. The Institute is an electronic library engaging in the necessary research to acquire, classify, store, retrieve, disseminate and utilize information by man-machine systems and networks. So much for the legaleze. For over three decades, Wheatley has been involved in the improvement of the understanding and use of computer systems as tools in making the right information available to the right people at the right time. Originated in 1999 by a private grant, the Interstate highway information project is formatted to utilize information from previous projects to present (to the traveling public) Interstate Highway exit locations and particulars, available lodging, etc. We started with the Interstate Highways in North and South Carolina, expanded it to cover the central and south Atlantic Coast states*, added California and Nevada and now include the primary 1 and 2 digit Interstates in the U.S.A. In addition to available, RV parks and discounted lodging, information we include links to our www.What-Where.info web site which lists many principal attractions in North America.
